  We stopped in quickly because we were doing some sightseeing and I saw "castle" in the title. Although we discovered it was a hotel, the woman who received us at the front was unbelievably nice and let us walk the grounds and use their facilities. Absolutely beautiful hotel inside, would stay if I could afford it.

  I will admit I was skeptical upon arrival to Inverlochy Castle hotel, which seemed at first glance a somewhat dated caricature of luxury living. But, once inside and tucked into our beautiful room, I found the hotel extremely well kept and surprisingly relaxed, antiques notwithstanding. We took advantage of the picnic lunch—which the hotel packed nicely in a very cute backpack—for our hike up Ben Nevis. We also enjoyed the large bath and excellent views of the mountain from our room. And who can say no to whiskey and chess in the living room after a long hike? While it might not be my first stop in Scotland, the Inverlochy Castle Hotel is a very beautiful spot if you should find yourself in Fort William.
